Hey all,

So far I passed on a 6pt.  1st day of season... Missed a big doe on opening day... and then connected on a young doe, Tuesday, October 4...

I then went into Turkey mode... Had a big gobbler within 30 yards and he didn't like something... Then had 5 within 25 yards but they came through were I never thought they would have... thick and nasty...

Yesterday... I was at home all day with my sick son

Can't wait till this weekend... Got an extra day of vacation so if all goes as planned, will be chasing them again!

Well, I'm up to 7 squirrels. I've seen 8 Deer, 3 bucks. I shot at a Very big 6-pointer this morning, but he was further than I thought(because he was Huge) and I missed clean---that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

Hope everyone is doing well. I'll be taking next week off from deer hunting until the "Pumpkin Army" goes home.

Good luck, and stay safe.

I passed on a medium sized 6 point last Saturday at 5 steps.  I saw six deer that afternoon hunt.

This is Dennis. I don't have anything to report. I guess I'll join the army Sat. Last evening I was hunting over at my camp and I had four squirrels running around on the ground below me. They have just recently mooved in, so I'm leaving them for seed. We're just about to finish up the two deer from last year so I hope I get a couple more this weekend. Gun season is crazy down here too. DEN

Passed several small bucks this year.  Saw some big ones, but not close enough.  Shot an eight pointer last Saturday.  Too close to gun season to pass another one.  I don't gun hunt much anymore, mainly due to work.  Hope everyone is enjoying the season.

I have pictures of the buck on this 'puter, but don't know how to attach them.  Sorry!

From Andy:

I shot this buck on 11/04/05 at 7:35 a.m.  It was very windy, but the rut was in full swing, and as everyone knows, there isn't a bad day to hunt during the rut.  He was chasing a doe, grunted him in.

Shot was eight yards with a 50 yard recovery.  I used a 63# recurve Harry Elburg helped me make, homemade cedar arrows, and an old Elburg Wolverine broadhead.

Killed a doe near Vevay about two weeks ago.  60lb Bear T/D Hunter, cedar shaft and Zwickey head.  10 yard shot, she went about 75 yards.  Took out both lungs.  Heard her crash within seconds of the shot.  Congrats Andy, that's a good looking deer.  Activity around East Enterprise in Switz. Co. has been slow.  Haven't seen anywhere near the rutting activity that I did last year.  Past on two different 1.5 year old bucks in hopes for a 3.5 or better.

Well, it ain't archery but the old firelock made meat again this morning. I had set up in one of the small woodlots on the farm , knowing that some does spend the night on the neighbors place and exit thru this woodlot. Well, they did (4 of them) but not close enough to me for a safe shot. So I walked to the next woods and had a seat, figuring to try the does again in the morning. I sat down, got comfortable and was enjoying some crackers, and listening to the little radio I was carrying. I figured as long as I had a good view of the woods it wouldn't hurt to bide my time somehow. 'Bout 9:30 I saw this buck come down the bank and across the holler. Small basket rack and did not appear to be all that big but it was a good shot so I took it. He died where he stood. And turned out to be much bigger than I had allowed, but still a small 5 point set of horns, but what the hell, good knife handle material.
You can't beat those 54 cal guns. Third one for this gun and one went about 10 yds and the other two dropped where they stood.
Too hot to loiter so I loaded him up, went to a friend's , hosed him out good and went home. Back straps and tenderloins are butterflyed and in the fridge. Rest is quartered up and in my BIG cooler and iced down. Hope to let it chill to early week and work up the rest.
Saw lots of squirrels so maybe some tree rat hunting is in order. I think if I go deer hunting again and score I'll have John's locker make it into sausage for me-good stuff !
