Ok well i'm enthused about osage. I went looking around and found lots of this orange wood, i'll hopefully learn more about this on Saturday, but just wanted to know about the size of the tree? and or is a limb good? found lots of 4-6 inch limbs that look good i guess the bark seams to look pretty straight ? i want to get a sample, for the class on Saturday so i know what i'm looking for cut into a little piece of this stuff and well the 029 stihl saw was sweating!!!
as soon as you cut it, seal the ends with cheap, white glue so it doesn't split. It's ok to go ahead and split it lengthwise if you want, but I'd leave the bark on for awhile
Yep, best to leave the bark on. I've done some where I took the bark off and the sapwood checked and the check went down a couple rings in the heartwood. Just remember with wood cut fresh-- you are about a year away from a bow.

I like a nice straight trunk, 8" or so in dia. The shoots are probably suckers. They usually have some good rings in them. The problem with small dia. is your bow will have a real high crown. I'll bring one that I cut flat and will back to show you tomorrow.
Osage can be force dried. We can talk about that also.
