My name is Dorian Yeager and I am looking forward to joining your association when January rolls around.
I grew up hiking and fishing around Elkhorn creek in Stamping Ground Ky.
Unfortunately I have only a little experience with archery (boy scouts, high school, etc.) but I've always enjoyed it.
I'm interested in learning traditional bow hunting in particular because of the art and skill involved. This day and age it seems technology exists for technologies sake rather than to improve the human condition it serves to line someones pocket book. Not only does technology make things sterile, it often fails you.
Glad ya made it. ---- Watch John Nail posts for used bows .
ITBA => Dorian emailed me with interest in the club, he needs a bow. A friendly soul from the KTBA recommended he wait until our club fires back up again in January - I agree, unless a deal pops up.
After speaking with a few people I honestly don't know which is more suited to me. My first inclination is toward a recurve bow so that I can use carbon arrows. I think that's why Gene Murphy sent me your way. He thought that I should have some experience with both before I jumped in and purchased a bow.

If you come to our first shoot, I'll let you shoot both. I have some recurves I'd sell, and John French has a longbow or two he might part with. Flinttim might have a longbow, and of course Dennis will try to get you started making a selfbow.

Dorian, you are headed in the right direction, good bunch of folks at ITBA.I'd like to invite you to come down to Harrodsburg at the KTBA shoots as well. We are just a simple bunch just like ITBA (only hillbillies)
I shoot both clubs and you can't go wrong with either. Also Steve Redden and myself have bows for sale. Be glad to help if I can. I'm sure Steve will as well. Looking forward to meeting you. Have a great day.
@Randy & Dale: Thank your for the invitation to KTBA. I may have to join both clubs so I can get outdoors more often. I'm hoping that I can establish myself in the sport and encourage my son in the same direction. He's only four right now, but they grow up fast.
It's good to hear that there are several people here with bows they are willing to part with. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one.
I've done some research into the type of bow I'm going to need, and I was a little bit shocked.
Apparently, though I am right handed, I have a dominant left eye. I tried the test about 15 times trying to talk myself out of it, nevertheless it's the case.
From what I understand, that means that I can either shoot with my dominant eye closed and loose all depth perception, or I can shoot a left handed bow.
I've also worked out that I had a draw length of 27.5" and I need something near 50#.
If anyone has a recurve they think fits that description I would be anxious to give it a try.
I know that shooting left handed will be clumsy initially, however, I think it's probably for the best.
There have been a lot of very good shots I have run into or heard about that were right handed left eye dominant. That is something I myself have allways delt with. I have tryed closing my left eye but as you said you lose depth perseption. The brain will learn to compensate with both eyes open. I believe I read somewhere that Howard Hill had this problem but we all know how well that worked out. In the end it will just be a matter of preference. Good luck.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all.
Excellent Idea! We try to plan our shoots around ITBA, so we can enjoy both, but its not always possible due to other shoot dates (Kentucky Klassic,Cloverdale) and turkey season, and 3 other clubs, 2 of which use our course. Still, many months you could make both shoots, if you are one of those lucky guys thats off every weekend.
