Who is thinking about going and camping at John Scifers deer camp at Jackson Washington state forest. It's the one that's close to Brownstown. It will be from fri. Oct 8th till mon. oct 11th. I'm trying to talk Ronald into going. If he does he might take his pop up camper.
I've been putting together a light camping outfit that I'll be using. That way if any of my close freinds like French or Tim want me to come up to their places and hunt for the weekend, I'll be able to grab a duffel, a couple small packs, and my bow and arrows and head out. My idea is going light yet still very comforatable. Any way it sounds like a good time. Jim claims there some big Boon and Crocker bucks on that property
The campground is very nice and there's a big shelter that everyone can retreat to if it storms. The campground shouldnt be crowded at all. You can get up and walk right out of your camp, go a little ways and be hunting or it's a short drive to a lot of good hunting.
Their are some woppers in their!! the starve hollw lake hills are good too. i done a little hunting their late last season. the deer were scared to death then after gun season but i bet early bow season would b GOOD HUNTING!
John a lot of it depends on the weather and if any one want's to go. Our old buddy Darren Shue is usually there. Me and Ronald went the first year and spent the day. We didn't hunt. I got to looking at topo maps of the place later and saw some interesting spots.
Tim knows an area that was logged off a couple years back in there somewhere. Usually a good spot. Places like that the people walk the ridgetops, and the deer sidehill. John French saw a big one around the archery range if I remember right.
Jon, going in blind is no problemo for a hunter. Sometimes it's the best way to kill deer. Ooze along like John says and you'll find fresh hot sign. That's where to hunt.
Knowing right where you'll set up for opening day usually don't work out anyway. The deer came thru last year, or maybe you saw a big boy there before or they usually feed in that area. Deer don't follow plans.
I think acorns are gonna be all over the place this year. Find out where Tims cut over is and locate a leftover oak tree . One that was too crooked to cut or wasn't easy to get to. Look for fresh sign.
If the weather don't break before then where is the good water? Sometimes you can find the edge of lakes that are still stirred up muddy from the critters drinking there. That's fresh sign.
Or do like I'm gonna do. Let John Nail go in first and try to stay back out of sight and follow him around
