"The proposed changes include reconfiguring the traditional 16-day firearms and muzzleloader seasons to nine days each while adding new antlerless-only "seasons"-two days in October in designated counties, and eight days in late December statewide.
Another change would extend urban deer zone hunting through Jan. 31. Under current rules, the urban zone season ends the first Sunday in January. Other changes would allow hunters age 64 and older to use crossbows in the early archery season, allow hunters of any age to use crossbows in the firearms, muzzleloader and urban deer zone seasons, and create a new nonresident youth deer license."
Sounds to me like they want to let gun hunters muck up our archery season for two days in October.

Bow season will be different if they do this for sure. I belive it will affect deer movement a lot longer than two days. I've noticed that the next couple weeks after the opening of gun the deer are hard to find. They move to areas where they are safe and become more nocturnal. I sat in a ladder stand one opening morning a few years back an hour before daylight. It was a real still frosty morning. It was in that flat, farming country up around Hanover. I think there are gravel roads every mile. It was unreal how much commotion there was that morning. Vehicles everywhere. Doors slamming. The noise had all the dogs barking. How could a deer not know that something was going on? About daylight the shootin started. I had a nice eight point run past me and never slow down. I think I heard him get shot over on the other side of the county road. Next morning I heard all the vehicles and commotion but not near as many shots. It took less than one day for the deer to adjust. Now take all them gun hunters and cram them in these southern counties. It'll be different.
I guess your old enough to use a crossbow now With that reasoning Cowells should be able to hunt with an AK-47
John, from what I am seeing and hearing these proposed regs are taking a beating in the public arena. I have gotten emails from several groups and organizations here in Indiana who are fighting this. If you look at the total proposed regs from the DNR, they are a mishmash of regs not any two of them connected. I really think what happened was they had "take your kid to work day " at the DNR and someone's 10 year old got ahold of the wrong computer.

I should add that since the ITBA is supposed to be a hunting club it would be prudent for all it's members to email the DNR on this issue and make your opinion known. For whatever various and sundry reasons your bitching and complaining counts more in an election year.

Tim, I would believe you, but a 10 year old kid would DO A BETTER JOB.
Let's face it: if you're a conservationist worth a pinch of crap, you wouldn't be in Indiana anyway.

Our DNR thinks everyone-every oscillating Penis-hunts out of a tree, and only cares about a high scoring buck.

I would say it's a done deal. Feel free to give your opinion though
I thought about the changes. How are they bad for trad bowhunters?
Well, that's two or three days right in the middle of the best ground hunting, when I have to stay out of the woods--or risk getting shot. If a lot of gun hunters go for those two days, a lot of deer will be killed and a lot will go nocturnal. you need to remember that hunting access up here is VERY limited. No woods left anymore.

John , maybe I'll need to get some depredation permits and we can start hunting earlier.

The only counties that will have that two day october gun hunt will be the counties that allow max doe harvest. It's all these river border counties. Not Decatur, Jennings, Jackson, Lawrence, or Barth. The closest one to you is Franklin. I would say those two days you'll have the woods to yourself. Down here it will be the battle of the bulge all over.

Well, I agree, that sounds good. I just hate for them to mess with it. I remember when they started the sales tax--it was just to pay for all the overpasses in Indianapolis..........
Yeah, something like that. They got it passed by swearing it would be temporary. As I remember, it was 2%. I Must have misunderstood, because everyone knows Politicians don't LIE
John, I think in the beginning it was 1%. I had just started working after school and Summers at the local grocery store. That threw a wrench into the works. The registers of the day would not compute such a thing, at least our old National wouldn't. We had the little card the state provided down next to the register that showed sales tax all the way up to $100. Trying to explain sales tax to old folks was a treat unto itself.

I remember those cards too Tim. And the tax wasn't applied to as many things as it is now.
