I've heard nothing, if things are as usual, that first shoot will be Jan 2.

Don't take my word on that!

Dave had the 2010 scheds at the year end party last Sept. First and third saturdays for the first three months. Then the third sat. the rest of the year ending in september. That means the first shoot is Jan 2nd. Somebody might have to go by and get French out of bed on the 2ndwink This year my new years resolution is to not be so serious and try to have more fun at the shootssmile Oh yea and to outshoot Tim every time he shows up with one of them modern plastic coated monstrosities that shoot carbon projectiles. I blame John Nail for gettin that starteddisbelief

Come on Dennis, I'm shooting a glass longbow this year but wood arrows. I might be getting shading but not completely over to the dark side. Them carbons were just too much work.I'll bring a wood bow now and then just to open a can of whoop a$$ on you.
Since I am the treasurer/sec of our m/loading club, I'll have to be there the 2nd but will see you gents the 3rd Saturday.

Tim,

Not to hijack the thread, but what club are you affliated with?

I'd like to get the muzzleloaders out some this year... Plus I need to talk to you about the possibility of building one... Dad wanted to build a 50 or 54 cal with a swamp barrel and a flintlock... so I may just have to do it for him...

Jonathon, we're up at North Vernon. Fish Creek Longrifles. I'm a big, big fan of the .54. I have two swamp barreled .54s (why 2, ask me sometime, sort of a good story) I also have a swamp 50 and a swamp 40, and a swamp 12 ga fowler and a swamp barrel pistol. Love the swamps. Built John Nail a swamp 36 squirrel gun.Love 'em. But for deer and other big game the .54 rules. When that 54 ball hits em, they go nowhere.Tip Curtis from TN has real nice parts sets for guns. He's always at Friendship. He has some 98 % inlet stocks that are very doable for a novice builder.I'd be happy to help when needed.Say the word and I'll bring a couple to look at.

Thanks for the info Tim,

I think that's the guy we always went in and looked at his stuff... if I remember right he was back by the range and to the left of the little drain that runs through there...

pop had some wood that he was interested in having the barrels routered or whatever they do and couldn't get anyone to do it for the swamp... I'll have to look into that some more...

I'd like to see some of your work... I still have that wood and would like to use a piece of it for sentimental reasons...

When do you all shoot? Saturdays or Sundays... so many do on Sunday's and it just doesn't work to do church and run out the door and try to get somewhere and enjoy yourself...

First Saturday of every month @10am. Usually a woodswalk with metal clangers and such. I have a friend over in OH who puts my swamp barrels in. He uses a tracing mill. He'll do the barrel channel and ramrod hole and groove for $60 ( I think but it's close to that ) I sent John's wood and barrel over to him.He does good work. I'll throw a couple of guns in the truck and bring to the 3rd Saturday shoot.

Do you have to be a member to shoot?

I'll have to seriously think about that... I'll need to come up with some money before gettting to gung ho...

That would be great Tim... I look forward to seeing some of your work...

Thanks for the offer John... but I really have more than I need already...

My dad used to build a few rifles, I know he built at least 3 KY Longrifles... a TN Squirrel Rifle that has interchangable barrels (35cal and 45cal) and a couple of Hawken types... and a flintlock pistol... and I'm thinking of giving it a try... I loved watching him do it, but never jumped in and regret not doing so earlier...

Well, Tim is the man!
He built me a swamped barrel squirrel rifle that is as nice as it needs to be.
