This is Dennis. I've been working on my new tri-lam bow the last couple evenings. It has a hickory back, figured oak wedge, cedar core, and a primo osage belly. I guess it would be a H.O.C.C.P.O.
My new form works perfect. Actually better than I'd hoped. I was alittle concerned about my working time with the Tightbond 3, but with the air temp in my shop at 20 deg. I had plenty of time to get everything lined up and clamped. It took about 3 weeks for the glue to dry compleatly. I think every afternoon it would warm up enough for the glue to dry a little and when the sun went down everything would kind a go into suspended annimation. I'm sure this had something to do with the perfect glue line I found when I sawed her out. She also held her shape 100% I can lay the bow right back in the form just like it was clamped.
This bow is a really cool looking R & D shape that I'll bet is really gonna fling an arrow. There is one thing that I'm midly supprised about. This bow is one of them danged bows that you gotta lay on your back and use your feet to help draw it. When I sawed it out the thing is about 1.75" thick. I'm gonna have to rig up some kind of block and tackle to get a string on her.
I guess if James Nixe ever gets to hunt.... say Blue Whale, I've got the bow for him
maybe i can teach you how to shot it soon dennis ? srry i aint made the last couple shoots ....been hunting ...lol man is life good . i aint even shot my bow but one time in the last month ? but ill be back soon .
I got some news for ya, young'un. It's like Golden Corral. You can't eat it all, they won't run out of food, and you need to pace yourself. Try to get it all at once and you get a belly ache. Best you come play some, and take a break from the table. Know what I mean ?

Bryan, I just got your message. Sorry I don't have his number. Mr. Nail, I'm afraid this bow will never make a shooter. When I just held the three lams together you could bend them almost double. Once they were glued together it turned into a whole different beast..
Scrape the back AND belly some. You might be surprised. You don't need a lot of hickory on the back for it to hold and the hedge can be cut down pretty thin. That will move the neutral plane into the cedar but that's OK. On a trilamm you can narrow it down fron where it is a lot too. I'd say about 1 and 1/4 inch. The other thing to consider, tri lam will have a lot of early draw weight. Don't let it fool you.
