After I saw this I dug into it further. Seems it has been tossed around the Internet for about 4 years and the legend has grown. Snopes.Com has the true story
Not as big a gator as the first story let on but I damn sure don't want any part of any gator that can swim off with a deer in it's jaws.

When I guided in Florida, the State record was a little over 18 feet. About 16 feet is the biggest one I ever saw. Bear in mind that while there are bigger ones, a mature Florida deer can be the size of a collie dog.
BTW: the way to kill a 'Gator, is to reach down his throat, and jerk him inside out.
It was about 30 years ago and we were fishing for yella bellies in the creek. Bout made me urp.
