Land Between the Lakes

Just wondered if any of you hoosiers ever hunted there?
Me and some of my KTBA buds make a trip west to it every year, doing a short weekend hunt this weekend, and probably another week long hunt in january. If any of you guys are intrested, I can help you with accomodations, and some good spots. (its all good)
Wranglers campground has primitive cabin rentals that are dirt cheap $35 night for 4 man cabin, $52 night for 8 man, (I think thats right, or pretty close).
These cabins have electric, bunkbeds ,and no plumbing, but showerhouse/toilet is close walking distance.
When you split the cost of gas, cabin rental its a pretty cheap hunt on 107,000 acres of oaks, pines, and small crop plots, plenty of gravel access roads, and plenty of remote walk only areas, very little to no hunting pressure late season.
Any body intrested let me know, and go to their website http://www.lbl.org/Home.html

Randy, when are you planning the january hunt? I might be able to make it. Let me know when you have a set date. Thanks.

God bless,

Jose

Randy, I done a lot of work back in the day around Grand Rivers and that area in the marinas on Barclay and Kentucky Lakes. The hunting always seemed promising but never got the chance to actually do it. What about hunting license costs ? Do they have a 3 day out of state type fee ? Also is the areas you hunt far off the Trace or relatively close by?

This time around I will be hunting right off the trace, only because a friend hunted there last week and patterned a big buck in this spot.
Normally I try to get away from the roads.
There are plenty of deer there, and it is immense 109,000 acres just in KY, the balance in TN.
Google Ky Dept. Fish and Wildlife for license costs.
You have to have a Ky lic and deer tag, also LBL $20 permit, which is good for 2 deer (buck/doe, or 2 does)
The $20 LBL permit gives you 2 bonus  tags above the KY state tags, so you would be good for 2 deer in LBL, and 2 more anywhere else in KY.
There is more public hunting land close by LBL, so that would be an option if you were lucky enough to tag out in LBL (never been a problem for me)
Keep an eye on this thread, when I get back i'll try and post more info.

Not thinking of deer but maybe later in the year in January or so. Don't they have small game seasons then ?

Just got home.
I had a bobcat walk right under my stand on night one . (not legal until dec.1)
Saw several deer, MILLIONS of squirrels, pelicans on lake Barkley, coyotes, and Eddie saw.., of all things.., and you ain't gonna believe this..., an armadillo, even got photos to prove it!
Check those regs in that link, and i'll try to get you more info.
The squirrels are legal to licenced archery deer hunters all through archery season, its in the fine print in the deer regs, just most people can't fathom people hunting squawks with bows.
The acorns are plentiful, which makes deer hunting there a little tougher, but should keep the tree rats active all winter. Mind you they are not as plentifull come january as they are now, but 2 years ago I went there just to squirrel hunt and manage to bag a few with a .22 pistol. I went with a buddy that only gun hunts, so I took a firearm so he would not feel so inadequate.., he struck out with a .17 HMR, and I got 3 with a Ruger M3 semiauto pistol.
Going to bed...

Randy. a buddy of mine who drives a truck regularly down to Evansville saw a road killed 'Dillo last month. I64. And I saw a news account of one being ran over in or near downtown E/ville a couple of years ago. So , yeh, I believe it. The Mexicans here in town I have talked to speak highly of armadillo. I may need to get their recipe.
