Fellas, Steve, Dale and I had a little meeting the other night to start planning specifics about the upcoming hog hunt, and we got to the food part, which has so far been up in the air. I called Matt at Shiloh about the food they have available, and he told me they offer pre prepared meals, frozen that we would reheat in the microwave for 30-35 bucks each. He said they will feed 5-6 people. He mentioned pulled pork, venison, etc. that his wife pre prepares and freezes, and they sell them to the hunters. We would be looking at 5-6 bucks each per meal, and the way Steve and I have it figured we will need about 5 meals, so about 30 bucks each for food. We are limited to what they have on hand, so I'm not sure about the selection, but it sounds pretty reasonably priced. What do you guys think? We are thinking if everyone takes their own snacks and drinks, and we buy the pre prepared meals, we can get off pretty cheap. Also, if we do cook our own, Steve has pots, pans etc., and I have some stuff, so we will need to get our heads together on what all we need, and what everone wants to bring along. I will be out of town until Monday night, and Steve will as well. Dale doesn't have a working computer right now, so we will call him and keep him up to date on the decisions. Let's hear from the rest of the group with your thought, and we will get this thing together. Let's hunt some hogs! Bryan

If I remember right, and John and Jose can correct me, I think they have a pretty good kitchen building. I don't think you'll need pots and pans. For coffee in the morning we microed a mug of water and stirred in instant. We bought one meal of Deer Stroganoff and ate off it a couple times. It was pretty good. They had a outdoor gas grile but we didn't use it. I would try to keep the food quick and simple. We didn't really have much time for cooking. It seemed to me if I remember right at the time sleep was more important than eating. We didn't eat very good while we were there. I think me and John lost a bit of weight while we were there. Jose is in better shape so it didn't effect him as much. Luckily I put mine back on after a few days back in civillization
If you all get lucky someone will kill early and get bored and cook good meals for the others. You can drive to town for some good food also but we didn't.
We were there in April so it got light later and dark earlier. So in theory you'all will have less time for eating than us. John's gonna starve
John, Hopefully Jose will chime in and it will be unanimous. I think the meals are reasonable. As far as tick spray, I;m taking plenty of Duranon. I got a nasty bite on my hand from a tick a few days ago when me and Steve were out running my beagles, so I ain't doin that again. Bryan

It is OK with me with the prep. meals. I follow my own crazy diet. I will get fruit, honey and peanut butter for my sandwiches. I am easy, I will eat anything. As Dennis said if we kill a pig early we can eat fresh pork a day or two.
Boys, might I suggest you look into the Lipton Sides , also Knoor has the same thing. About a buck apiece and one pack makes a good meal for one. Very light and won't take much room. A pack of that, 2 cups water and 12 min or so in the microwave. Terriyaki is my favorite, also comes in several rice assortments and various noodle dishes. Some require milk and I would stay away from them since you may not have milk along. We keep some in the pantry at all times and when the Mrs. is gone or working late I eat those.Something to ponder. They are a big hit in backpacking circles. Also you can buy chicken and tuna in small foil packs that need no fridge. One of those dumped in while cooking adds some body to it.

I got bad news today and I'm not going to be able to go on the hunt. My boss called me and let me know I was being layed off. Not knowing what the future will bring I need to keep close tabs on my cash.
I'm posting this for a couple of reasons. If someone can and wants to go at the last minute there is room. Secondly, Brian wanted me to leave his cell number (502-693-0996) for John and Jose so they can call him about, maybe, all riding together.
Brian will call Shiloh tomorrow to let the know about the change.
Sorry to do this to everyone, I will miss the trip. Next time!!
John, When we went there were only three of us on the whole place. It won't matter to Matt.
Steve sorry to hear that. But remember the future is yours to decide. What are you gonna do next week, go to work those days? Tell your boss.... Well tell him your going pig huntin.
Guys, If one of you is going to call Matt, then I won't call him. I was going to call him today after talking with Steve last night, but I don't think we need all of us calling him. Let me know who wants to do the deed. Also, if Steve doesn't go( I still think we may talk him into it), then maybe we can get the 4 of us who are going together and save on costs on fuel, etc. Anyone can call me at 502-693-0996 and I can relay the information to Dale who doesn't have a working computer right now. Thanks, Bryan

guys i just talked to matt and we have to cover the $150 for the 5th spot . we can kill an extra pig (1 of us) but we have to have $750 when we arrive. i'm still in if everyone else is ?
I will call Dale in the morning to check it out with him, but I say let's go for it. 150 bucks split 4 ways won't kill us, or if someone wants the extra pig, they can do the 150 bucks. Either way, I say let's still go and have fun. Bryan

Jose, I spoke with Matt at Shiloh, and I think the extra money thing will work itself out. We can talk about it on the way to decide how we want to handle it, and settle up with Matt when we get there. He gave me a couple of options, all of which very fair I think. I think we have settled on eating the meals there, so Dale and I will see you at Dennis's house at 7:00 am tomorrow. See ya then, Bryan
