Fellas, With all the talent we have in the club, we aught to have a bow building day. Everyone bring a stave or 3, some tools and get together somewhere and make bows. If anyone has any ideas, lets put one together! Bryan

I've got some hickory and some osage, osage is kind of fine ringed. Where do you think would be a good place to have it John? We maybe could have it at the club, could probably get a bandsaw or two up there also. If anyone has any ideas, speak up! Bryan

Bryan. We talked about doing that at the 2 day shoot. We got to thinking though that with the setup, novelty shoots, shootin all classes, trade blanket etc. there probably wouldn,t leave much time. DEN
Dennis, I am thinking of doing this as a stand alone event. I think if we have a shoot going on, like you said, there will be too much going on. I have wanted to get with Gary Davis and build a bow everytime I've seen him, but it is always at a shoot and there isn't enough time to go around. Even if we don't have it at the club, we can maybe have it at someones house. I will volunteer my place, but it may be a bit much of a drive for some folks. Just trying to get some input for now, and maybe we can put something together. Bryan

Besides Mojam, I've been to three bow bees in this area. One with Nighthawk, and Jim up at Morgantown. Good place, and fun time. Next at Minutemans place up at Beanblossom. Bueatiful place, and nice fun. Last Oct. with John Scifferes at Brownstown. It was a great place but they combined deer hunting, and not a lot of building went on. Doing it again this year. I agree that there needs to be one somewhere, sometime in this general area. DEN
I may be rufflin the wife's feathers but I might be persuaded to do another one here. Course I'm headin down to Clarksville, Tenn. first weekend of May for the Classic so we prolly wanna steer clear of any time within a month or so of that. ( ya'll need to get to Pappy's its a ball!)If someone has a place to hold it thats a little more centrally located I'd prolly come down if my truck keeps runnin'. I know I'm a little far north for some of you fellers. DS,Kentucky is a bit far for me I have to admit.
I'll call Jim Critney tonight and see if he can get a hold of Night hawk. I was just talking to Jim about the Morgantown one last weekend. He'd be there I'm sure if we did another one. Any body know how to get a hold of the folks at the Morgantown Conservation club? Thank you, Dennis. A fine compliment. Chris
Well Jim is gonna make some calls to see if we can get permission to have it at the Morgantown Conservation club. He's also gonna be asking around at ya'lls next shoot to see who might be interested. So if ya see him, bend his ear about it, let him know you're interested. We also need ideas on when to have it so make your ideas known.
We are thinking about a weekend thing. Maybe folks getting in on Friday night or early Saturday mornin',staying all day Saturday and heading out on sunday sometime. Really have enough time to get some bow building done, ya know.
Obviously we'd have to get the camping okayed, seemed like they had plenty of reasonably flat ground to set up a tent or ten! May have to charge a dollar a head to pay for the porta stinkers. If we can get enough folks interested and get the Morgantown CC to allow us to have it there we may get to where we can have our own little Mojam right there . I'd like that. Sure would save on gas.;>)
I'd say that would put me out of going to that club. What about having it on an off shoot weekend at the Scottsburg CC? That location seems to be centrally enough located to maybe get some attendance. Bryan

Hello! My name is Tracy Fairchild and I'm new to southern Indiana. I have been looking for some primitive/traditional folks since moving here in July. I was able to shoot one of your last shoots but wasn't many folks there when I shot around. I would be willing to help out with staves, tools, etc if this event comes alive. I'm between Columbus and Seymour. Looking forward to meeting some new faces and might find I already know a few of you from years at Cloverdale. This sounds like a great idea and will help if I can. Thanks, Tracy Fairchild
Hello Tracy. This is Dennis. It,s great to have another bowyer around. There are some good bow makers in the club. We have several glass bow guys that shoot there. Loyd Cheek, Redtail, Po Boy, Dale, and Crooked stick. Oh yea Larry Hilton. I know I left out some. On the primative side, or as I call it the bare naked pure natural side There are some good uns too. Tim lives up near you and he makes a real nice bow. He's made a lot of different styles also. There are a bunch of us that have made one or more bows. This part of Indy has a lot of good bowyers in general. Keith, Flatstick Jackson, John Sciffers, Chris, and others. Look me up next time your at the club. DEN
Thanks a lot , Dennis. I noticed catfishon at another site and dropped him a line. I'm not a purist when it comes to primitive and don't have any problems with guys that prefer glass bows. Traditional folks have always been good genuine people and that's why I came here. I've been building my own equipment for only five years so I'm kinda new and definitely not artsy when it comes to making a bow. As I told catfishon, I look forward to shooting with you guys and I'm planning on the 19th shoot. Thanks for the hospitality from all and will stay in touch.

Alright I had a chance to catch up with Jim Critney last night. He said we can rent the Morgantown Conservation Club for the weekend for $50. We could charge a dollar or two a head and probably make that so thats not a real hurdle. We just have to get the date set for a time that doesn't clash with Cloverdale, Compton's, Mojam , The tenn. Classic, Farmland , or any of the shoots they will have at the Club. The classic is the first weekend of May 2,3,4. I'll see if the (Morgantown cc) has a website with shoot dates for the year somewhere. Mojam is July 18,19,20. If anyone knows the dates this year for any of the big area shoots please list them in this thread so we can get an idea when we can have it. We don't wanna have a low turnout because we planned it on the same day as a longstanding successful shoot like cloverdale or something , that wouldn't be smart. We also need to get it set reasonably soon so we can get the word out to people. That'll give folks time to set it up with their families and work so they can make it. You can Mapquest directions from your place. Just use Morgantown Conservation Club as the location( Have to pick the largest street # option its about two miles back off the highway), Conservation Club Rd, Morgantown In , 46160
Morgantown Conservation Club 3-D archery shoot schedule for 2008:
Feb 3 mar 2 Apr 6 May 4 June 1 July 6 Aug 3 Sept 7
Minuteman, I think if we have this thing at the Morgantown club, we are certainly going to run the risk of some of us not showing up, certainly the boys from KY. Is there a particular reason why you want to have it at the morgantown club, or why can't we just hold it a Scottsburg? I would like to find a location where we can make it easy for the largest number of folks to make it, without making the Arabs any richer than they are already.LOL! Bryan

Bryan, the Arabs don't own Morgantown club. The If there was camping and a couple rode together it wouldn't be too bad. Much better than Mo. Get Jim to drive.
Last time at Morgantown there were about 20 people, if I recall. Some from Indy. Some from Terry Hoot. Some from Illinoisy.
At Johns Hunting Bee last fall some even came from Pensyltucky.
As far as bow making gatherings go, Mt. Washington is local to Morgantown. I bet when Chris goes to Tenn. some of those boys will be interested.
They have better camping, better club house, Mabey more parking. I also think I heard our club rents for $200 for weddings and whatnot, although I could be wrong about that. DEN
Bryan I'm not trying to exclude anybody by any means. Theres a reason why I don't shoot at Scottsburg with you fella's. Its too far to drive and too much of a chunk out of my day just to shoot at some foam targets. Now we had a bow bee at the Morg. CC a few years ago in april or late march that was kinda cold but had pretty good attendence. Just a week before you broached the subject here I had been discussing it with Jim Critney so really you just kinda lit the fire under us and got us going is all. Could be you fellas could all meet there at the club and carpool up. That would save on gas some. I bet I could get the word out pretty well down there in Tennessee, Dennis. We'd need to have the dates set before I go is the only thing. It would be awful nice to have a yearly thing there in Morgantown that was BIG. Maybe attract folks from far off places like KENTUCKY! I'll start keeping track of shoots and stuff so we can get a date hammered out. Keep the dates for shoots you know about comin fellers. Chris
Alright fellas, alright! I'll quit whining about driving. If the Morgantown club is much better, then let's go there. Maybe I can camp out, or get a gas loan from Dennis! What does the Morgantown Club charge for renting it's facilities? How many bandsaws do we have?( I have one) Is there electricity available there or do we need a generator? Let's work out the logistics of this thing and make it happen, fellas! Bryan

They had elec. last time. It would hard to pick a perfect date. Crit would probably be the one to decide being as he's more familier with that club. Keep in mind when Friendship is also. I don't know. Someone should contact John Scifferes also. He brought the saw last time. Bryan, you can camp with Ronald. He'll have plenty of gas. DEN
Compton- June 20th-23rd. I only know a couple who go.
Cloverdale June 13th-15th. This is the biggie in this area. Need to stay away from a week before and after if possible.
Farmland May 23 24 25. A few go to this.
Johns hunt bee. Oct 25 or around there I think. Best to stay away from huntin season all together if possible I would recon. It starts in early Sept. in KY. DEN
As much as I enjoy camping in cool weather I think that the end of June is our first viable option. That gives us a little more than two months to get the word out and for folks to beg the wives and bosses for time off from honey-dos and work. That'd be Saturday, June 28th and Sunday the 29th.
How many weddings, family reunions, birthdays and anniversaries we got that weekend?
Our next good option , it appears, is the 12 and 13 of July. I'd like to stay outta August if we can avoid it. Too hot.
