I am making a spear for 3D (I figure there must be some "spear chucker " blood in my family) but I don't want to mess up the $ targets. Should I "foot" the thing with a detachable target shaft, or just stump shoot while you guys work the targets? Been thinking of tapering it down enough to accept a rubber point.
John how about an atatl arrow ? You could use a heavy field point, about 5' shaft (the cane at Lowes and HD works and comes that long) and some big feathers. Should throw good.

John, I would look at getting a carbon fiber ski pole. They are more consitant, straighter, more durable, and better in general than most spear materials.

P.S. When you were in the army, did you kill any Germans?
Go buy the fattest alum. shaft they sell. have them cut it in 2 or 3 inch sections. add inserts and screw on points. Wittle your .5" ramin dowell down and glue shaft sections on. Or I could make you some brass points that would glue directly on. I don't know how heavy they would be, or if I could get them done by next shoot. Or just wittle a point and fire harden. Which arm is injured. DEN
