You should be well rested by Sat. morning then. Are you gonna shoot your new, used widdo bow. I'm sure Tim and John will be shooting their curves also. I think it was Jay Massey that said, it's a special feeling shooting equipment that you bought with your own money. Well it sounded something like that.

I just got off the phone with Dave and he told me about the top secret, confidential target purchase they just made. He made me take an oath not to tell, so here goes. A little jacqulope, tiny frog, baby mosquito. I said we should put the mosquito on Billys neck, and shoot at it. I'm going out in the rain and practice now. See you Sat. DEN

I think John shoots a longbow better, but you better watch out for Tim the curve man. He was shootin real good last time. He was even asking about carbon arrows. weirdface

You know the way I shoot I think aluminum and carbon might be cost effective. I seem to be able to shoot them straighter than woodys which means I might miss the target less, which usually means a lost arrow. Plus when some of those target sets have you "threading the eye of the needle" I have a better chance of shooting straight thru a hole in the vines and trees. Usually with wood that means a broken arrow.
Seriously, premium wood shafts are now as costly as aluminum and if you shop around carbons can be had for about the same price. Sipsey River has 3555 blems most of the time for about $39 dozen.
I ain't giving up on wood, I like them in my longbow and selfbow , but my 'curves like man made materials. Dale Pottinger told me the last shoot that he bought I think 6 or 7 dozen shafts to get a dozen that were matched in spine and weight.Since we have used up all the old dead POC we are now using force dried wood which will never be as stable as dead wood. Now if somone could figure out a way to make laminated wood shafts at a good price, we would be in business.

Boy oh boy, unbelivablehmm I shoot with a bunch of flaming carbonistas.weirdface
You'all can do whatever, but I,m going in the other direction. I,ve just recently been making up some Tax Dodgers that I got from John. I painted them that dull carbon black colour, and cut self nocks in them. I've been experimenting with hand cut turkey feathers and just about have that figured out. I also just bought about 18 more ramin dowells for $.50 cent each. I'm running them through my homemade dowelling machine to take them down to about .340 thou. then running them through my homemade tapper machine so a 5/16 nock will fit. I mixed up some tangerine rit with alcohol and tried to match that old autum orange colour that arrows use to come in. I have a bunch of full red and white feathers that would look good on them. I bought the feathers cheap when Foley went out of business. I would like to banana chop them but Ronald loaned out his choppers and can't remember to who. The nocs I got at Wallys on clearance for 10 cent a dozen. I figure less than a buck total cost per arrow.biggrinbiggrin DEN

i have some turkey feathers if you need them dennis ?
tim, i have some of them carbons also and they are tuff ! the biggest thing i don't like about them is how light they are. i shoot them with 175 grain points , and they fly great .i may have some 50 grain brass inserts if you want to try some ???

I ordered some 145 and 175 gr points to try in them. Mine weigh about 440 grs with 125 gr pts. As time allows I may drop some weedeater line in them to weigh them down more. Most of my cedar arrows weigh around 480-500 grs with 125 gr pts.. Something I fooled around on, was taking long allen screws in 8-32 and screwing them in the back of the inserts that come with the GTs. The screws weigh 30 grs.

that should work better than weedeater string . when i tried it it would pop my nocks out

The weedeater line don't work too hot, like catfish says, pops the nocks out, even just hitting foam targets sometimes. I use 100 gr brass inserts,125 gr points. That way you swap field points for the favorite broadhead and don't change anything. The allen screws sound good too, but the brass inserts are just so easy and sturdy, well worth the cost.
Problem with weighting the full length of the shaft is getting the spine right. It did not work for me, but it may for you, give it a shot.
Some folks have even used wooden dowells inside, but again, unless you glue them secure you will be popping nocks.
